Atlanta Journal-Constitution's Mike King...DECEITFUL WEASEL
Once upon a time I thought that Mr. King might have some degree of integrity but after reading his last take on illegals it's become more than obvious that he doesn't give a damn about the facts and avoids them at every turn. Especially when they destroy his arguments/agenda. At least Mr. King buffered some of his road apple rhetoric rather than resort to the type of blanket deceit and lies that Cynthia Tucker engages in, "In midterm elections earlier this month, American voters showed their profound common sense on the issue of immigration: They refused to reward politicians who had demonized illegal workers, making them the scapegoats for terrorism, crime or the decline of the middle class. Those candidates whose campaigns had been fueled by invective and demagoguery about foreigners went down in defeat."
That's the kind of desperation that the pro-amnesty bunch resorts to in an attempt to bolster their pathetic position. As anyone with a half a brain knows, there were many more reasons for Hayworth, etc.. not to be elected than having a tough stance on illegal immigration. From what I've seen, I can only perceive a tough stance on illegal immigration as a positive to their campaigns, but it didn't outweigh other factors. I base that on the FACT that Arizona voters overwhelmingly passed some very strong anti-ILLEGAL laws. As for Tucker's assertion, there's one glaring fact that destroys her argument and proves her a liar: Tom Tancredo. I can think of no other politician who's been more in the forefront of the battle. I don't know what Cynthia Tucker's been down in but Tancredo didn't go down in defeat, he was re-elected.
When Mr. King touched on this topic he prefaced his argument with the word "Some." Excellent. Even though I disagree with his assessment he didn't make himself out to be the liar that Tucker is. "Some of the most vocal, anti-immigrant Republicans in the House, including Indiana's John Hostettler and Arizona's J.D. Hayworth, lost their seats." Yes, they did, but was that the reason? Ahh, sorry, I don't see it.
Also, in King's piece (AJC, Jan. 2, 2007) he only used the bullshit terms of "anti-immigrant" and "immigrant-bashing" once each. He didn't resort to the usual "haters, xenophobes, divisive, nativists, mean-spirited," or the ever popular "racist." And he didn't use the last bastion argument of bleeding hearts everywhere, "What about the children?" So I give him credit for that.
Sadly, he did resort to the typical half truths that symbolize agenda driven liars everywhere.
Between 2002 and 2012, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the U.S. economy is expected to create 56 million new jobs, half of which will require no more than a high school education. All evidence points to a yearly demand for 500,000 additional unskilled laborers in the United States.
This is meaningless unless they give a NET. Do they figure in the number of jobs eliminated vs. jobs created? Do they figure in the number of legal immigrants coming in every year (about a million) and how many of those workers will fill "unskilled" jobs? I'd like to see where Mr. King comes up with that assertion for "500,000 additional workers." I hope it's something more substantial than the Manhattan Institute.
Yet, under current quotas, only 5,000 visas are granted to foreign workers each year to fill low-skill jobs —- a level that has remained unchanged for years. Meanwhile, between 450,000 and 500,000 illegal immigrants have been streaming into the country annually, many of them now moving into worker-needy states such as Georgia.
Oops! This is where he proves himself deceitful, underhanded and, as I contend, "A half truth is a total lie" liar!!! ONLY 5000 visas are granted to foreign workers each year to fill low-skilled jobs?" BULLSHIT!!! And he knows it's bullshit and he doesn't care, because by perpetuating this bullshit he hopes to support his pro-amnesty agenda. I've heard others use that claim and took the time to try and find out where it comes from. The FACT is that there are guest worker visa programs for low-skilled workers. Dept. of State
H-2A classification applies to temporary or seasonal agricultural workers;
H-2B classification applies to temporary or seasonal nonagricultural workers. This classification requires a temporary labor certification issued by the Secretary of Labor (66,000);
Did you notice that the H-2A didn't list a cap? So, where does he come up with "only 5000 visas?" Turns out that's for permanent, not temporary, low skill workers. I couldn't even find that figure on the Dept. of State's site. I found it mentioned in some Congressional testimony from a pro-amnesty type. So, now you know the truth. And when some lying weasel spews that crap, as I'm sure you'll hear it again from the deceitful pro-amnesty bunch, you'll know it to be another trick in their arsenal of propaganda. Goebbels would be proud.
I won't even get into his take on another amnesty. Of course, the pro-amnesty bunch NEVER wants to use that word, they prefer to use the deceptive phrase of "Earned Legalization."
Mr. King may never achieve the genius that is personified in the writings of Cynthia Tucker but, at least, he tries. Cynthia's shear brilliance stands alone as a stark and powerful monument to editors everywhere. A loftly benchmark which young journalists can only dream of achieving. "The Senate had made a reasonable start toward a plan for allowing law-abiding illegal immigrants to get on the path to citizenship." Ahh, is that a little like "law-abiding rapists" or "law-abiding burglars?"
