It seems to me that nobody likes sudden change. We like things evolving over a long period of time. If you are brought up in a heavily black, white, Latino, Muslim, whatever, neighborhood and within a couple of years it's 60% Asian Buddhists you might go, "Hey, what the hell?" But change is a fact of life. It's just a matter of change for the better or worse and how quickly that change occurs that causes concern.

Ehhhh, I have some understanding of immigrants learning English becoming an issue. Many people see English being pushed aside and an appeasement attitude coming in that doesn't promote English nor encourage people to learn it. But I, also, understand that historically immigrants and their children will eventually learn. We have many words from many different languages in common usage. Many people may not know the true meaning or origins of some such words. But my bottom line attitude is: learn the damned language, you jerks. I speak some Spanish. I'm self taught. No big deal. I could probably function in a Spanish speaking environment though my syntax may suck. Honestly, if you only learn a couple of hundred words you can get by. Depending on if you're visiting or staying.

I've been saying this for years. The word mincing and dancing all around the term "amnesty" gets laughable. None of the politicians supporting such will go near the word even though that's exactly what they seek. If this bank was simply assisting LEGAL immigrants then I couldn't care less. But it's my understanding that the only people that really need a Matricula ID from Mexico's consulates are ILLEGALS as legal immigrants have other forms of ID.  Therefore, this bank is aiding and abetting illegal aliens by helping them manage their monies, loans, whatever. But, like we all know, illegal immigration, and banks, are about the money. To hell with the country, there's a dollar to be made. There's more to this story that's not covered. Are the police asking about immigration status? OMG!!! But that's a federal issue. Ever run into a license, insurance, etc.. check? No big deal. And, as one that tries to obey the law I appreciate it when they try to give a little incentive to those that don't abide by the law. And if you somehow forgot your license it's not usually a big deal because they can run a check to see if you have a valid license issued to you. You might get a ticket, might not. But if you're an illegal, wanted fugitive, driving without insurance, etc... uh-oh, you might have a bad day.

This article is kind of skimpy. I've read other articles that went into some detail about how bad things actually are along stretches of the border. There's a town in, I believe, Texas that's just across the river from Mexico. Burglars swim across the river and steal everything they can get their hands on. Some of the residents are leaving. There are stretches of the border where the local police have been told by their supervisors "Don't go there." But,as we know, as the border tightens there will be an upsurge in violence, at least, for a while.

Like many places, seems we can't build jails fast enough. Alternatives to prison, well, that's  a debate for another day. But this seems like a good idea, assuming we can keep them out after they're deported and that they serve some kind of realistic sentence after breaking whatever laws here. No, I don't think a rapist should be deported after serving only 12 months but some illegal in jail for a minor drug offense, boot his ass out rather than paying to keep him in jail.

Very nice to see some lawmakers showing some spine and doing the right thing. The "pilot" program is voluntary but should be mandatory all across this country. It doesn't detect all illegals using bogus or stolen ID but it will spot many of them. Like we know, business wants cheap labor and doesn't want to do anything to stop it. This is just reaffirming federal law but adds a little kicker. It's against federal law to hire illegals, nothing new there, but with this local law they can boot vendors whether they're prosecuted by the feds or not. I've seen all sorts of studies and can say without reservation that both sides play with the numbers. ANYTIME you see a study that blends the figures for legal and illegal immigrants that study is BOGUS. One recent study is making the claim that illegals commit fewer crimes on an average than citizens. That may be true but they specify "violent" crimes, not all crimes. Consider this, every illegal in this country, that's 100%, are violating our laws. Many are committing multiple felonies by lying on taxes, carrying and using false IDs and Social Security cards, etc.. This study is eye opening but, in fairness, doesn't say jack about any offsets that illegals may pay.

Happens ALL the time. I didn't post this story when it first came out because they didn't say whether or not the ACCUSED was an illegal. It was an odds on favorite from the information given earlier but I don't like to assume. Anyway, one of the reasons this made headlines is simply because of the victim's status as a Hollywood director. Otherwise, his and his son's deaths probably wouldn't have made the back pages as a blip. What hasn't been said, yet, is whether or not the offender was arrested in the past but, because of sanctuary policies, his immigration status wasn't checked and/or he wasn't reported to ICE. I've often wondered why there aren't lawsuits filed against police/justice departments where, after an illegal is caught, tried, convicted, sentenced and then released to reoffend with no effort made to contact ICE? I'm really hoping that more states get on the program and the Fed doesn't cut them off at the knees before some of these bills take effect.
