You know, this does have the smell of hyperbole around it but I don't think it's really that far off from reality. The border is an extremely dangerous area in some places. I've read bits about local cops being told to stay away from it. I've read other bits about some small towns along the Rio Grande that are being ripped off on an every day basis by people coming across the border, stealing, then swimming back across. Consider that some of the drug and smuggling wars have already been spilling over and the effects have been felt all over the country.

This is Bush's answer to the problem of 12-20 million illegals and another million a year crashing the border. "All those here can stay and we'll double the amount of legal immigration. That will mean fewer trying to crash the border." Totally insane. I've been supportive of Bush on many issues but I've opposed him on this issue from the start.

There's another side to this: If ICE deports these pukes then they're not supposed to re-enter this country, that's a felony. So, if the laws were being enforced then this law wouldn't be necessary. However, as we know, some gate-crashers don't have much regard for the law.

Seems like two different trains of thought driving this. One seems to be a fear that if they oppose an amnesty then that will cost them the Hispanic vote. I think that's a common myth. From the way American citizens of Hispanic descent voted on Props in Arizona, it's obvious that Hispanics are not in lockstep. Plenty of American Hispanics oppose amnesties and special treatment of illegals. There's also the fear that if they don't support this the dems will pass it anyway and gain the Hispanic vote for years to come or those amnestied are going to vote for democrats, regardless.

There's nothing better for the average working stiff than a tight labor market. Wages and benefits go up. I've always contended that illegal immigration isn't a partisan issue. Plenty of republicans support business having a large pool of cheap labor. BUT plenty of republicans/conseratives have a strong sense of fair play and can't come to terms with those that cheat the system. Plenty of democrats/liberals have sympathy for those "less fortunate" or may have a "We are the World" attitude. Others see the impact on the work force and wages and don't support a huge number of illegal immigrants coming in who suppress Americans' pay and job opportunities. Even Chavez opposed illegal aliens as he formed the farm workers union.

Some of these illegals are murderers, rapists, child molesters, drug dealers, etc.. It's my understanding that these slime were released back on the streets often because they requested a hearing to argue that they shouldn't be deported, even after getting out of prison. And they simply vanished rather than attending any hearings. I'm not exactly sure but some of it goes something like that. Remember, Reid threatened to reintroduce S. 2611 from last year if this Senate couldn't come up with a new bill. That was the Senate version of H.4437. The House version was an enforcement only bill. The Senate took it and spun it into an amnesty. The Senate passed it 62-36 but when it was sent back to the House they wouldn't even discuss it, DOA.

This isn't unexpected. This is politics. There's a republican faction that wants to do everything it can to maintain lots of cheap labor to business. They don't care what that cost this country. The democrats are looking for potential voters. They don't care what it cost this country as long as it helps them gain power. I've often thought that the politicians are making a mistake by thinking amnesty equals the Hispanic vote. Yes, some Hispanics look at anyone that opposes illegal aliens as racist. But there are plenty of Americans of Hispanic descent that don't see it that way. Also, the run for the White house looms large. I don't think any of the candidates want to go near this issue, except Tancredo. Whether it be a matter of the opposition outspending them or the legal points, I don't know. I believe Hazelton's law was a little different and required renters to get a permit that was issued by the town. Permit, clearance, whatever. I've be meaning to do this but something just popped up as an additional incentive. Bank of America is one of those banks that aids and abets illegal aliens. No doubt, they're operating within the law BUT making it easier for illegals to live and work here isn't my concept of an "American" thing to do. Illegals can open accounts there without a SSN. Also, they can get credit cards after meeting some very minimal criteria. Funny, my new bank asked for a driver's license and Social Security card. Why don't all banks? Anyway, it took about an hour to open an account with another bank and it is kind of a pain but I never felt better. I still have to deal with a couple of companies that are automatically paid thru my bank account but that's no big deal. Turns out that the new bank has a much better deal on checking. So, take the time to check what you're paying at Bank of America versus what other banks may offer. Not only might you be getting a better deal but you, also, can do your duty as a patriotic American and dump Bank of America for their assisiting the illegal alien bunch.

This is taken from a whining pro-amnesty snot-nose so I don't know how reliable it is, but we'll see. If illegals started packing up and leaving this state it would just break my damned heart.

(yawn) Illegal aliens in this country killing people is hardly news. Illegals using a bomb at a Vegas hotel is a little more worthy of getting a headline. What I DIDN'T see was whether or not the victim was an illegal. My understanding is that many crimes committed by illegals are, also, aimed at illegals. I know some American scum target illegals because they think they may not report the crime AND they carry a lot of cash.

When it comes to illegal aliens, I've seen so many lying, cowardly, deceitful, scum politicians that it makes me want to give up on this country. But, We the People still have a chance. And every once in a while some politician steps forward and shows some backbone and concern for this nation. I know nothing about this guy except what's in the article. So, unless later shown to be a weasel, he's ok with me.

I've said this before. I think it is a huge mistake for politicians to assume that if they oppose illegal aliens then they'll lose "The Hispanic Vote." See, there are plenty of American citizens who happen to be Hispanic and are Americans FIRST. They are proud of their heritage, they are proud of the contributions Hispanics have made to this nation, as well they should be. Maybe I'll post the Medal of Honor recipients that have Hispanic surnames, sometime. And these Americans have the same outlook as I: If you come, do it legally and understand that it is an honor, not a right, and we can't let in everyone that wants to come. What's really disgusting is the way the pro-illegals treat these American patriots. They get called names like "coconut" and "traitor." Excuse me? American citizens standing up for this nation, not the invaders who've proven a contempt for this nation, and you call THEM traitors?? Go To Hell.

This is mind-numbing and has to be some of the most pathetic excuse hunting I've ever seen, but it typlifies Arizona's governor.

This is soo typical of the whining snot-noses. Any act of law enforcement that results in illegals going to jail and they start screaming to the heavens about being singled-out and picked on. Oh, don't suffer these horrible indignities, Get the HELL out!!!

Huh? What does that mean? Either we're keeping them out or we aren't. Yeah, I know. They'll find a way. No, we can't stop them all but we can cut about a million invaders a year down to like 10,000.
