AJC's Cynthia Tucker is a Bleeding-Heart Pro-Amnesty Moron
I should take the time to post a letter I sent her and the other editors at the AJC concerning one of her earlier editorials. She was trying her typical bullshit about how we rely on illegals and how much more things would cost and...all the typical baseless arguments we've heard a zillion times. Commonly, she resorts to emotional arguments, avoids facts and relies on innuendo. This time, not as bad as usual.
Keep this in mind about the AJC: They own the largest Hispanic paper in the Atlanta area. Also, as most are aware, newspapers have been scaling back for many years. Readership is down. The AJC stopped being a 2-edition a day paper some years back. And I believe they had a recent lay-off. Probably going to replace workers with illegals. *S* Weasels Acquired by The Atlanta Journal-Constitution in 2004, MundoHispᮩco recently moved into new offices in suburban Atlanta. A pioneer in its field, the newspaper has served metropolitan Atlantas Hispanic market since 1979. With a circulation more than double that of its nearest competitor, MundoHispᮩco is the oldest and most respected Spanish-language publication in the market.
For a few years, Georgia's public colleges and universities did the right thing by a handful of deserving students who, though in this country illegally, finished high school in Georgia with good grades and fierce ambition. The Board of Regents used to allow those students to pay in-state tuition to attend public colleges — a privilege generally reserved for legal state residents.
It is sound policy. The nation needs more well-educated citizens if it is to maintain its economic hegemony in an era when students in India and China and Malaysia are excelling in physics, engineering, mathematics and entrepreneurship. But the Board of Regents is now backing away from its tuition waivers, citing a new Georgia law designed to crack down on illegal immigrants.
Cry me a river. Plenty of American citizens could use more help with their collge bills. These people have had their educations paid for by the American taxpayers, and instead of whining about getting a bigger break on their college bills they should be deported. Short of that, they should be paying the same rate as foreign students, not citizens. Also, upon graduation they're not even allowed to legally work in this country. If we need more well educated citizens we can bring them in on visas or as permanent residents. Not like there's a shortage of highly educated types that aren't trying to get in. AND, their educations have already been covered, so we don't have to pick up the tab. GOOD IDEA.
The angry rhetoric and apocalyptic predictions from the nativists notwithstanding, immigration reform isn't adifficult or complex matter. It's not nearly as hard as stabilizing the Middle East or shoring up Medicare or ending Americans' addiction to foreign oil.
Angry rhetoric as opposed to bleeding-heart bullshit rhetoric? Yep, immigration is a simple matter, secure the borders and enforce the laws.
Having taken advantage of their cheap labor for decades now — eagerly employing them to water our lawns, wash our cars and pluck our chickens — we shouldn't hesitate to make it easy for their children to attend college. It isn't merely a matter of fairness or compassion but also one of economic self-interest. Any student dedicated enough to learn a new language, excel in high school and start college is going to be successful somewhere. I'd rather it be here.
Again, the "but they're good for our economy" bullshit. And, somehow, she forgot to mention the NEGATIVE costs of illegals. I'd love to see these students DEPORTED and becoming very sucessful in their home countries. Maybe that would help stem the flood into this country.
