AJC's Mike King. More of the Same BS.
This guy has the nerve to talk about "Myths" concerning illegal aliens? Let me just highlight a few points concerning his typical pro-amnesty smoke signals. I get sooo tired of tearing their crap apart, piece by piece.
MYTH: Illegal immigrants take jobs from Americans.
Reality: Nearly half of the nation's low-skilled jobs are filled by foreign-born workers, many here illegally, some here with work visas. Illegal immigrants represent 20 percent to 30 percent of the workforce in certain segments of the economy, including some very important to Georgia, such as construction, farming and poultry. Employers in all these industries have reported problems filling jobs with American workers over the last decade. There are simply not enough native-born workers to meet the demand. The Department of Labor estimates the American economy needs to produce 400,000-500,000 laborers in unskilled jobs every year. It's no coincidence that's roughly the number of immigrants who have illegally entered the country each year over the last decade.
First, he blends the stats for legals and illegals. A common tactic used by the pro-amnesty bunch. The reason employers have problems filling jobs is strickly a matter of wages. You pay me enough and I'll get nekkid and sandpaper a wildcat's ass in a telephone booth. He's also used this stat about needing 400-500 thousand unskilled laborers every year. I haven't found it. But, it's meaningless unless it's a NET need. We have over a million people coming into this country every year. Did that stat take that into account? Did that stat take the number of people losing their jobs into account? Then he tries the typical bullshit cause and effect argument, total straw grasping at it's worst, in an attempt to bolster a lame position. "It's no coincidence that's roughly the number of immigrants....." Oh, had to add this: The number of unemployed American citizens about equaled the number of employed illegals a year or so ago.
MYTH: Illegal immigrants depress wages of Americans.
At least he admits this but tries to downplay it. Then, later in the piece, he tries to argue that American workers just aren't as good as illegal labor.
Many of the American workers applying for the jobs flunked the company's drug test.
How totally pathetic. Well, ahhh, gee, the company still couldn't get good American workers for shit wages. What a shock!! And he didn't give any stat on how many flunked.
MYTH: Illegal immigrants don't pay taxes.
Again, he admits the truth but tries to downplay it. Yes, many do pay state and federal income taxes, and some don't. And, again, it's about the bottom line. Are illegal aliens a NET benefit? And every halfway legitimate study I've seen says, "NO," their costs outweigh their savings. Also, he fails to mention that the "pay-back taxes" provison was dropped from the proposed amnesty bill.
MYTH: We don't have an immigration problem. We have an enforcement problem.
Groan. This is where King really loses all sense of reality and takes a bad trip thru the looking glass to try and justify surrendering this nation to the invading hordes.
Reality: Why not simply enforce the laws on the books? Because, as a practical matter it is impossible. Over the last year — the busiest in the last decade for immigration officials — just more than 220,000 were deported. It took a special infusion of money to track them down, and these were immigrants with known criminal records and outstanding deportation orders, whose cases are easily adjudicated.
WRONG!!! King is confusing the total number of deportations with the number of criminal deportations. Many criminal cases are dropped against illegals after they're picked up, at Swift for example, if they waive their "rights" to a hearing and sign up for expedicted removal. In another thread I posted the numbers of absconders apprehended and the number of years it will take to locate, arrest and deport them.
Most opponents of legalization instead propose a strategy called "attrition through enforcement." By emphasizing the threat of deportation, and selectively issuing deportation orders in a few targeted immigrant communities, life would become so difficult many of those here illegally would leave voluntarily.
It's already been proven to work, King, you delusional idiot. Hazelton had an almost overnight exodus of thousands of illegals. Yeah, some, many, most might have simply moved to a less hostile area, but others left the country. Same thing in Colorado. Now imagine every area of the country passing and enforcing such laws.
King's whole position is something like, "Well, they're here and you can't really expect government to enforce the law, can you?" YES, King, I can and do expect the government to enforce the laws. The total lack of enforcement is why we have 12-20 million illegals in this country. And, if you have this defeatist/surrender attitude, how is the government going to enforce the proposed amnesty??? All this nation needs to do is to start seriously enforcing the laws. Illegals will leave. No, not all. But many, rather than risk losing their possessions, will sell their homes, etc.. and get the hell out of Dodge. It's that simple. How can anyone expect the government to enforce upcoming laws when they've ignored the laws for the last 20 years?
Honestly, his whole argument is laughable. Too many burglars? Well, you can't possibly arrest them all so the only sensible thing to do is make burglary legal. Brilliant!!!!
