Racially Profiling Hispanic Illegals in Nashville

@ 11:06 PM (11 months, 21 days ago)

(groan) I get sooo tired of that crap. Guess what? About 85% of illegals are Hispanic so what ethnicity do you think is most likely to show up as the majority of those arrested? Part of this story that wasn't said, I'll get to in a minute.

Nashville

The number of foreign-born persons physically arrested by Metro Police over the Memorial Day weekend was more than twice as high as the average number from a weekend, according to Davidson County Sheriff Daron Hall, who is responsible for screening all foreign-born arrestees for federal immigration violations.

Although Hall and his deputies have no police powers in Nashville, they do have the ability to run immigration checks on every foreign-born person brought to the jail by Metro Police.

And through that ability — as a result of a law enforcement sharing arrangement with the federal government known commonly as 287(g) — the Sheriff’s Office identified as being illegal aliens 92 percent — 61 people — of the 66 foreign-born persons physically arrested by Metro Police last weekend.

That number is in line with what the Sheriff’s Office has seen every week since it began running immigration checks through 287(g) last month.

But what was twice as high as normal was the percentage of total arrestees who were foreign-born.

Over the Memorial Day holiday weekend, a total of 299 persons were physically arrested and brought into the Metro jail for booking.

Preliminary figures from the Sheriff’s Office show that 66 of those individuals — or 22 percent of the total — were born outside the United States.

Excellent. There should be an immigration check on every person brought in to every jail in this country. ICE should be notified when it's an illegal and they should be put in deportation procedings.

Arrest data from the Police Department shows that, in addition to the 62 persons Metro Police charged with DUI, police charged 32 individuals with the misdemeanor offense of driving without a license.

Of the 32 driving without a license charges issued over the weekend, only 12 were issued to persons who had another, more serious charge, whether the additional charge be a driving offense — such as DUI — or a more serious misdemeanor — such as drug possession — or a felony – such as assault.

But for 20 individuals, driving without a license was their sole criminal charge.

Metro Police have maintained that while it is generally their preference to issue citations in lieu of physical arrests, they are usually compelled to physically arrest a person who cannot verifiably prove their identity.

The Metro Criminal Justice Planning Unit has found that Metro Police physically arrest approximately 75 percent of Hispanics charged with driving without a license, as opposed to the 75 percent of Caucasian persons who Metro Police issue citations to for driving without a license.

What? Why? Why would 75% of white guys get released with a ticket and 75% of Hispanics go to jail? Obviously RACIAL!!! But, ahhh, a little something they left out: What  happens if you get pulled without a license? Doesn't the officer ask you if you have a valid license and ask for you name and address, etc...? So, then the officer is able to call it in or punch in the information into his computer. And the computer tells him, "Yep, there's a license issued to Joe Blow, weight, height, eyes, age, etc.. at Bite Me Ave." I'll have to ask my cop buddy about some of this but in this era of computers it wouldn't surprise me if they could pull up your license with picture on their computer screens. Anyway, so the police know or have reason to believe you are who you say. However, if you DON'T have a license issued to you then there's no way for the police to verify who you are. And if they let you go with a ticket only to learn later that you were a wanted child molester, it would really piss them off. Got it?

  1. To purposely ignore people for fear of "offending" a specific group, and thus hamstringing good ole common sense is the real injustice.......the parasite griping at the host.......if a specific group of people, lets say terrorist or illegals, or thugs have certain prevalant defining features, then they should be singled out more than others if there is any reason to suspect.....I work in an E.R........and believe you me, we have to profile all the time...example...before x_rays are taken on a female, pregnancy status has to be addressed, our unofficial guidelines are if your able to menstruate, and have a uterus and ovaries you will get a hcg test if that area gets x-rayed...profiling to protect a possible new life from radiation exposure.....were not mean its just the facts....if the shoe fits.......

  2. Kewl. I worked in a hospital for about 8 years at one, a year at another. Loved it but left for my own reasons.

I don't advocate targeting any group based on race, etc.. but so often there's this scream of "Racism" when there's NOTHING racist about it. Yes, the results may indicate race played a role but you have to take in the circumstances. If all you heard was that 75% of arrestees were redheads one could assume a bias against redheads. But if you also learned that the arrests were conducted at a drunken clown convention then it would make sense. Being a redhead wasn't the focus, being drunk was the focus.

A group complained about a majority of blacks getting pulled and ticketed in an area near Atlanta. Turns out that about 70% of the drivers in that area were black. Well Duh.
