Illegal Aliens are Good for the Economy. My Ass

@ 09:52 PM (9 months, 20 days ago)

Usually, I post an article and comment on it. But I wanted to step out of my box and address something that I've debated a million times to the point of nausea.  The "good for the economy" defense/justification for allowing another amnesty or increasing our levels of legal immigration is nothing but an argument borne out of total desperation from the pro-illegal side.

I've seen and read more studies than I can remember and, almost without exception, every study that tries to show illegals are a net plus skews the results by blending the stats for legal and illegal immigrants. In fairness, many of the studies of overall costs coming from the anti-illegal bunch are skewed simply because of who commissioned them. It's hard to sell the fairness of a study done by the "Boot those Gate-crashers Out Institute." Some of these studies get very involved and can span generations of "immigrants." But, taking a step back, the whole argument gets silly and let me share why.

To those that try to argue the economic benefit I ask this: Is a dollar what determines right and wrong in your book? Maybe that's your moral compass but it's not mine.

Also, people will try to argue that immigrants account for a higher GDP and they'll point to some European country or this country during the industrial revolution. In short, they'll wrongfully make a "more is better" claim. Sorry, they're wrong. If more immigrants/consumers/people equaled a better society and more economic wealth then China would be on top and not the USA. Another thing, Japan is number two on the world GDP scale but has less than 1% immigrants.

And this little fact kills them. The pro-illegal "more is better for the economy" brigade advocates the supposed benefits to our economy from the millions of illegals. Ask them if they would, by their logic, advocate supporting the economies of these "impoverished" countries by sending their nationals back? Afterall, they contend they're so good for us so it only goes to reason that the best thing we could do for their home countries is SEND THEM HOME. Ahhh, I don't think the pro-illegal brigade likes that discussion because it points out their blatant hypocrisy.

Also, one of my favorites: "But they're just poor, starving immigrants trying to help their families." Really? Would anyone like to show me a credible study that shows how many were "starving." Many acquire thousands of dollars to pay coyotes to be smuggled into this country. I've read reports of some illegals paying upwards of $70,000 to smugglers. If you've got money in your pocket I have a hard time thinking that you're starving. And here's another little flagrant piece of hypocrisy from the pro-illegal boo-hoo bunch: The snot-noses want to use supposed POVERTY as an excuse and justification for illegals, but do they want to base our immigration policies on poverty? Hell no. Fact is that if we based our immigration policies on poverty then Mexico wouldn't even rate as they're much better off than many other nations.
