This is totally unbelievable.
The AFL-CIO, the American Civil Liberties Union, the National Immigration Law Center and other groups announced Tuesday that they are suing the federal government to stop a recently announced rule designed to crack down on employers who hire illegal immigrants.
The lawsuit says that the rule “will threaten jobs of U.S. citizens and other legally authorized workers simply because of errors in the government’s inaccurate Social Security earnings databases,” according to a press release.
In addition, it says that the rule “violates workers’ rights and imposes burdensome obligations on employers who receive ‘no-match’ letters that inform an employer of alleged discrepancies between employee records and the Social Security Administration database.”

I think these slime businesses should have to pay back wages, minimum wages, whatever they would have to have paid a legal worker. And the illegals should be deported whether during or after the lawsuit IF it doesn't affect that suit. If their deportation kinda hurts their suit then, what the hell, give them a certain time for the legal matter to be resolved. Then throw them out and throw the cheating, stealing, employers in jail.

Dear Idaho,
Please FIRE this lying cry-baby piece of puke at your earliest opportunity.
"What will happen over the course of the next two months is several million workers will be laid off or fired and there is no one to take their place," Craig told the Boise Rotary Club.
Craig said the Bush Administration is sending "hundreds of thousands" of letters to employers about bogus Social Security numbers. "Sorry, that name and that number don't match, or we don't have that number, or that number belongs to somebody who's already on Social Security — that's a mismatch," Craig said.
"Then you must do one of two things. You've either got to check the background of your employee, or you've got to fire them and get them off your payroll. And if you don't do that, then you're liable for the following fines starting at about 30-plus-thousands of dollars. That's the law. It's being enforced, and it should be enforced."
I won't tear him apart right now, I'm tired, but I will say with no hesitation that he's lying and crying his ass off.
Ok, let's get back to this fear-mongering jerk. As a side note: I've never felt any need to lie, mince words, split hairs, dance, spin, blow smoke or bullshit on this issue, but that's all I ever see from the pro-amnesty side.
I've been wrong lots of times but something tells me there won't be millions of people laid off in the next two months. And I've mentioned why. I don't know what the rules say about people that are working and have already received a no-match letter but I know this, they'll have 90 days to clear it up. And I know this: Loophole for small business.
Employers receive letters only if they have at least 11 employees and more than 0.5 percent of those employees have mismatched names and numbers, said Lassiter. Many people are under the belief that only big corporations hire illegals. Not true, plenty of small businesses also hire them. So, these new rules won't even affect small businesses that scam the system. AND it won't affect those dirtbags that hire illegals under the table until they're caught.
This year, the agency will send an estimated 140,000 letters to employers for the 2006 tax year. It will send 8.5 million to 9 million no-match letters to individuals. Is Craig mincing words? Ahh, I don't know. I can understand the administration sending letters telling what's coming but, suddenly, they're going to send "hundreds of thousands of letters" when last year they sent 140,000 to business? Humm?
A little dose of reality: If this adninistration was seriously looking at mass layoffs of illegals in the next couple of months President Calderon would be putting up a wall to keep them from coming back to Mexico. The whole Latin American world and other countries would be screaming bloody murder. I'm not hearing that. I'm only hearing the chirping of fear mongers.
I'm not real big on polls. Too many of them are agenda driven and bogus as hell. I don't know about Rasmussen but I'll post this for you to decide the validy.

The people run talk radio, not the commentators. If I, as a DJ, wanted to promote whatever agenda and it didn't play with the listeners then I wouldn't have any listeners. My ratings would tank and I'd be out of a job. All conservative radio did was give the common man a platform for voicing his outrage and helping people focus that outrage in the right direction.

I have some sympathy for farmers, it's a really screwy business. IF you're lucky enough to survive a drought, flood, whatever, and have a banner crop then the prices may fall. The supply may out-strip the demand. But, I've lost sympathy for them and hiring illegals. I understand it but, so sad, too bad, play by the rules like everybody else. I read a story of some growers that dumped growing pears? and switched to peaches? or some such, because of a cheap labor shortage. One crop used less labor than the other. Fine with me, sounds like good business sense.

This is the typical crap we hear all the time. Picking on those poor criminals and stomping on their rights. Awww, brings a tear to my ass.

I've read about some of this before. As I recall, one aspect I found very amusing had to do with Mexican farmers hiring low-wage illegals on their way to the US because so many Mexican workers were in this country. But, as we know, illegal immigrants present all sorts of problems.

Like so many laws, they are totally meaningless unless you fund the enforcement part. You can put up all the signs you'd like that say "Speed Limit 50" but unless there's some real fear of consequences then many people will simply ignore them. However, these laws have been having a positive effect. I'd read about people of questionable status leaving subsidized housing and, according to one commenter, the illegals aren't in line at the DMV anymore.

I keep harping about this because it's one of the best things the Congress could do, right now, to help address the problem: MANDATE that every jail run every inmate thru an immigration check. Not all illegals would show up on such a check and that's a reason for jails to have officers trained to spot illegals. Anyway, some states and localities are getting it together even though our Congresspeople are a bunch of wussies.

This is an interesting little article talking about how honest contractors get screwed by those slime hiring illegals and it ony makes money for those cheating subcontractors, but the practice doesn't save the homeowner money.

This is kind of skimpy but points out what we already know, people are fed up with illegal aliens and some states are trying to get serious about the problem.

I just saw this story a little earlier on the news but, so far, it hasn't shown up online. As I recall, some metro law enforcement and the feds got a tip about a tour bus hauling cocaine. They waited for the bus to arrive at it's destination then watched as suspected drugs were unloaded. They then followed the people to another location where several million dollars in cash and "suspected" (suspected, my ass) drugs were confiscated. Humm, let me guess. Ahh, Mexican nationals involved? Illegals? Naaaaw, couldn't be. NOT that I'm trying to paint all Mexican nationals or illegals as drug runners, but if I was placing a bet in Vegas that's where I'd put my money.

Woo-Hoo. I've said that it's Arizona, in my opinion, that's really leading the way when it comes to how to deal with illegals. And much of that has to do with the voters, not the politicians, making the call.

Illegals and drug running. Kind of like bacon and eggs. I don't think the word "illegal," as in "illegal alien," is even used in the article, but you can fill in the blank.

Edited to correct that Mecklenburg is in North, not South, Caolian. The Myrtle Beach heading threw me(groan) Why not every jail in this nation? Why do we have to have repeat offenders running around free? I posted something about this ALLEGED serial rapist/invader before but this article has a few more details.

Apologies for the lack of posting but I haven't seen much today. It's all the same kind of thing I post all the time: Businesses are having a screaming tantrum over upcoming changes that would require them to fire people that don't get their SSNs straightened out. And illegals in areas where the laws are getting tightened up are wetting themselves and looking for any way to avoid getting booted. Gee, wouldn't it be great to see our laws enforced? But it ain't going to happen.

The powers that be announced a short time ago that they were cutting the number of troops on the border. Actually, most were in a support capacity to the Border Patrol and weren't engaged in apprehending illegals, so they say. Anyway, I agree with Janet, now is NOT the time to be cutting back. Now is the time to show a real force on the border.

I find these kind of white flag waving, hand-holding, seditious defeatist surrender monkeys nauseating. Why not take a stand for this nation, governor? Why not take a stand for the law? Why not take a stand for equal treatment to all that come to these shores the right way? Why not show some concern for NOT rewarding those that have shown a total disregard for our laws?

I've been watching this issue for a very long time. Some democrats were trying to say that the issue just popped up on the radar as a diversion from the war, etc.. That's a lie. What's happened is that the whole country became focused because the whole country became inundated with illegals. For years it was the border states that saw what was going on and the issue meant nothing in Po Dunk, Georgia or Corn Field, Iowa. Well, that's all changed.

This is one constant in the whole debate, when illegals feel the heat they start leaving. The writer of this article is a typical word-mincing weasel, notice his inability to specify whether the people mentioned are illegals or not.

McCain did a little dance in Iowa after getting his ass chewed off and distanced himself from an amnesty and from Kennedy. THEN he jumped right in on the last failed attempt at an amnesty. Go figure. Kyl ran on a "no amnesty" platform. The Border Patrol union apologized for endorsing him after he tried to push for an amnesty. Graham, I don't know where to begin but he's been a total weasel and needs to go. Specter is pushing for some kind of "immigration reform" and I'm sure it's tied in to these guys. So, do NOT trust them. This is part of a damage control plan AND seeking another means to supply business with cheap labor.

Again, every jail in this nation should be required to run an immigration check on every person arrested. And every person arrested that is determined to be an illegal should be reported to ICE. And ICE should put every illegal thru the deportation mill. They won't. ICE doesn't have the resources and only focuses on the worst of the worst. And local candy assed sheriffs, etc.. don't want to touch the issue but that's the way the system should work.

The short take is that a new law requires car buyers to have a driver's license to buy their car license plates. But, if it's a renewal they can get their tags online, no license required. And, now, seems a bunch of folks are incorporating because corporations don't have to present a valid driver's license. BUT, with a little luck, the General Assembly will find a way to plug that hole.

This blurb is way skimpy but it wouldn't surprise me. From what little I've seen, the government prefers to toss them than jail them. We see time after time illegals getting picked up, but how many actually get deported? We see them rounded up and put into the mill, but how many/few are charged with the felonies they've committed by illegal reentry, using false federal documents, etc.. I've NEVER heard of IRS going after an illegal that was in the deportation lane. It may have happened, but I haven't heard of an instance. We'll see how this plays out.

I haven't seen any studies but I'm sure somebody will come up with one. However, there's plenty of anecdotal evidence to show that when law enforcement starts focusing on illegals they leave. Some leave the area, some leave the state, and some go home. In Hazelton, Farmers Branch, Georgia, Colorado and othr places, when illegals got the message that the cake walk was coming to an end they got moving. No, not all. Maybe only a few have left Georgia, but things are getting tougher for them.
