This goes hand in hand with why our scum lawmakers are going to try and sneak another amnesty thru. Of course, they won't go near that word and they'll start whining about poor farmer Mr. Green Jeans can't get labor unless they pass a guest worker program/AgJobs bill. And if they don't pass it then it will take the milk out of starving babies' mouths and food prices will skyrocket. All a load of horse droppings. But get ready for a big round of tears and scare tactics.

The ONLY difference with this rule and the current rule is that under current rule the employer simply informs the employee that their SSN info doesn't match, and that's it. The new rule call for the employer to fire the employee if that employee doesn't get the information straightened out with the SSA. I have a much better idea. Nobody gets hired unless their SSN information is run thru a data base and comes up good.  I don't know how many jobs I've had where the ydid some kind of background check. I've been fingerprinted I don't know how many times. I've had to submit forms that required me to give nearly every relative and friend I ever had.

In a new effort to crack down on illegal immigrants, federal authorities are expected to announce tough rules this week that would require employers to fire workers who use false Social Security numbers.

Officials said the rules would be backed up by stepped-up raids on workplaces across the country that employ illegal immigrants. (yawn) Yeah, I know, you're REALLY going to get tough, this time.

Now Bush administration officials are signaling that they intend to clamp down on employers of illegal immigrants even without a new immigration law. The approach is expected to play well with conservatives who have long demanded a tougher stance on illegal immigration, but could also spur a renewed legislative effort to provide legal status for the estimated six million or so unauthorized immigrants in the work force. Yep, here is the reality. "We couldn't sell the people on another amnesty but if we bark real loud about enforcement then the people will let another amnesty by, we just have to play the fear card.

“Across the employer community, people are scared, confused, holding their breath,” said Craig Reggelbrugge, co-chairman of the Agriculture Coalition for Immigration Reform, a trade organization. “Given what we know about the demographics of our labor force, since we are approaching peak season, people are particularly on edge.” Oh, that just breaks my little heart. And I'd be crushed if you slime that have been cheating the system for years held your breath until you turned blue.

Immigrants rights groups and labor unions, including the A.F.L.-C.I.O, predicted the rules would result in discrimination against Hispanic workers. They said they were preparing legal challenges to try to stop them from taking effect.  MY ASS.

“If this is strictly enforced, there could be massive layoffs of workers,” said Muzaffar Chishti, a director of the Migration Policy Institute, a non-partisan research group. But he said that illegal immigrant workers might not leave the labor force, but would apply for jobs at other businesses using the same invalid documents. He predicted the market for forged documents would grow.  Again, here we have the reality/loophole. There's not going to be jack-shit for enforcement. It can take months for an employer to get a no-match letter. Then, according to these rules, the employee has 90 days to get it straightened out before being fired. So, the illegal just goes to the next place hiring illegals and he's/she's good to go for at least 6 months or more. AND dirtbags employers can say they fired "Juan" but then rehire him under a different name and bogus SSN. Hence, they never get tossed. and the only thing thatwill stop that is ENFORCEMENT. Enforcement that our government has no intentions of carrying out.
