Newark. Suspect in vicious multiple murders convicted for earlier crime.
The slayings in which he is one of the "accused" was a particularly senseless and vile act where three teens were executed. The particulars were so outrageous that the New Jersey Attorney General mandated that all jails screen for immigration status of those arrested. GOOD IDEA.
One of the suspects in the schoolyard slayings of three Newark friends last summer has been convicted in a separate case.
A jury in Newark found Jose Carranza guilty of aggravated assault and weapons charges Thursday in connection with a bar fight in West Orange in 2006.
Carranza has been in jail on $2 million bail since being arrested last August for the killing of the three college students in a Newark schoolyard.
At the time of the killings, the 28-year-old illegal immigrant was out on bail for the assault charge and for a separate child rape charge.
Since then, New Jersey has changed its policies on bail for illegal immigrants.
