Jobs Americans won't do. A TOTAL myth.

@ 01:17 PM (1 month, 27 days ago)

This comes up all the time and I had a little epiphany of the obvious that I wanted to share. This goes hand-in-hand with the "They only take jobs Americans won't do" garbage.

Think about this FACT: In those well publicized "raids" where ICE went into meat packing housing, etc.. the majority of workers were LEGAL. Which means citizens were working at the same jobs as illegals. But...but..but..

The ONLY jobs that I'm aware of that have a long history of migrant labor is in agriculture. Some areas have relied on a cheap migrant labor force for over a hundred years. I heard some migrant worker saying he never saw an Anglo in the several years he picked crops. He may be absolutely correct. But that doesn't apply to the whole nation. Much more recently we've seen farmers in other areas of the country that are just happy as hell to get a supply of good CHEAP labor and they don't want that to change.

The FACT is that most, if not all, of the jobs where illegals mainly work are being worked by a much larger percentage of legal workers.

Let me share a couple of facts from the Pew Center, hardly an anti-illegal source. This dates to 2006, stats mainly from 2005.

Pew

It's a pdf file so I can't cut and paste but check out these numbers: Illegals make up 24% of farm workers, 17% in cleaning, 14% in construction and 12% in food preparation. WHICH MEANS most of these jobs are being done by legal workers.
