Nashville hits 3000 illegals processed for removal after first year of 287(g)
Woo-Hoo. Way to go, Davidson County. I'd like to see the figures on how many were found to be illegal, how many were then processed for removal, and how many were actually deported. Anyway, this should be happening at every jail in this country. This article focuses on the need for a local immigration judge.
One the eve of the first anniversary of Davidson County’s 287 (g) immigration enforcement program, state and local officials are making an effort to bring an immigration judge to the county.
The Sheriff’s Office announced today that 3,000 illegal immigrants have been processed for removal through the program that allows local law enforcement to check immigration status and begin the process of deportation.
But, the process is lengthy and many immigrants pinpointed for removal have to be processed through a judge in Memphis or Oakdale, La., which could take up to six weeks, according to one immigration advocate.
An immigration judge in town would expedite the process, according to Sheriff Daron Hall.
