ICE busts over 100 absconders in Texas this week.
Good. But at last count there are about 600,000 of them running around.
More than 100 illegal aliens who have failed to comply with deportation orders were rounded up this week in East Texas.
Carl Rusnok, Immigrations and Customs Enforcement public information officer, said that a fugitive operation team targeted aliens who had been ordered deported to their native countries by a federal immigration judge but refused to comply.
The illegal immigrants will be removed from the United States and sent to their native countries of El Salvador, Mexico, Peru, Cambodia, Nicaragua, Ghana, Guatemala and Honduras.
As of today, 109 of the illegal immigrants were returned to Mexico, 20 were in custody at an ICE facility in West Texas and seven were released in East Texas for various reasons, either on their own recognizance or under an order of supervision, which requires them to report regularly to ICE.
ICE established the first Fugitive Operations Teams in 2003. By the end of 2007, there were 75 teams deployed in various locations around the United States. The agents in Athens are from the Dallas office, which was set up last year.
According to DHS figures, there are more than 450,000 absconders and the number is growing by more than 40,000 each year. The DHS goal is to eliminate the fugitive population within 10 years. Not a chance. They've said their total for last year was about 3,000.
