Day the Earth Stood Still is going to SUCK. 2008 version.
Let me put this date up so I can give a big, FAT, "Told you so." Dec. 7th, 2008. This is totally off my usual rants but I know my posts make it to Google so I wanted this logged for posterity.
Generally, I think most remakes suck. They totally miss what made the original a classic. If you've never seen the original you might find a remake entertaining. If you've seen the original then you will always be disappointed. Such was the case with "300" and "War of the Worlds." The remake of "The Thing" was pretty good, though.
I base my conjecture on the thinnest of evidence but this film screams out, "Trendy PC BULLSHIT." After viewing some of the trailers I'm left with two overriding pieces of evidence to suggest that, once again, they screwed up a classic by being idiots. Let me tell you why I think this is true:
1. They don't stay true to form because, instead of a single saucer coming to Earth to bring the news for us to get on the program, they have multiple "orbs" landing around the world. Ok, that's bad enough because if Mr. Bad-ass spaceman was really so bad, he wouldn't need a bunch of help. Didn't need any other saucers in the origin. One Gort was enough to fry the whole Earth.
2. This comment is made by the Spaceman character. "If the Earth dies, you die. If you die, the Earth survives." That may not be exact but it's close. That gained from a trailer. Can you smell it? Can you smell the stench of Al Gore and environuts? Can you smell the rotting, decaying flesh of Hollywood idiots trying to put a current theme on a classic movie? I can just about guarantee that's the spin. That's the weenie Hollywood garbage they're going to weave into this movie.
You scum should be ashamed of yourselves for trashing a classic movie with your thumb-sucking puke. We need to recycle Hollywood. Put their decaying brains in a compost heap. Gee, why didn't you twits simply cast Al Gore. Maybe a cameo appearance. That would be good for a laugh.
Update. I was right but it doesn't count because somebody already let the liberal Hollywood rats out of the bag.
Earlier, Reeves has revealed that Klaatu's message to Earth was different from the one in the original. The new warning is to stop destroying the environment. "I think that this film in some ways is an attempt to address a number of issues that are among the most pressing issues for the human race," Derrickson explained. "The original being a Cold War film was addressing what was clearly the greatest threat for the human race at that time mutual nuclear destruction, and that's not the most pressing threat that we face now. It's also man vs. man. We are destroying each other as well. Our country's at war right now. There is certainly the issue being addressed in the movie of our treatment of one another on the planet."

The theme of the original was that "a race of robot policemen has been given absolute power" over the humans in Klaatu's solar system- and that Earth was risking obliteration if it threatened to extend its violence into the robot's realm. It said nothing at all about, "Stop fighting among yourselves"!
