Day the Earth Stood Still 2008 Spoilers

It's not Hollywood doing another remake that bothers me, there are tons of remakes. Look at all the Draculas through the years. What grates my cheese is them putting a typical Hollywood leftist slant on a classic. The slant on this movie is that Klaatu and company come to Earth to wipe out the humans, not the planet. They're pissed the humans have trashed the planet. But get real, are they going to do another version of the Titanic where Somali pirates take it over and they sink it, not an iceberg?

This is a combination of what I know and strongly believe: Haven't seen it, yet. It opens Friday.

Klaatu comes to Earth not to warn the people to get off the idea of sending nukes into space but, in this version, to do a quick assessment of how humans have mistreated the environment; wars, etc... "If the Earth dies, you die. If you die, the Earth survives."

Humans fail the test and the Al Gorts start laying waste to mankind. In this version it takes more than one saucer "sphere" as they have multiple spheres landing around the planet. I, therefore, assume multiple Al Gorts. Why does it take multiple saucers and Gorts in this version? In the first version one Al Gort was sufficient to turn the Earth into an over-fried chicken nugget. They, of course, gave Gort a make-over and he's now about 60 feet tall. Had to be much bigger and badder than the original.

Somewhere in the initial phase Klaatu, the Patricia Neil character and her son, become pals. Klaatu has a change of heart and determines to stop the annihilation. Somehow he convinces the Als that humankind is worth saving but the Gorts demand a sacrifice. I'm not sure what humankind will have to give up but I'm thinking oil. Also, as a token to the purists, and this is kind of silly if you think about it, the Patricia Neil character is not the one that says the magic words to Gort to stop the carnage, it's Klaatu. "Klaatu, barada, nikto." It's done in the midst of all hell going on so you have to be watching and listening for it. No way is humankind, the Patricia Neil character and her son, getting wiped out. The audience would be really pissed about that. So, it has to end with a somber message but a new dawn rising over a more enviro-sensitive human race. What a bunch of Hollywood clowns.

In a throwback to the religious tones of the first version ( Mr. Carpenter and his resurrection) Reeve's Klaatu bites the green weenie and dies. Ahh, but he comes back, but not in human form. Might only be a voice coming out of a sphere. Surely he's not coming back as a enviro-friendly yard bag. Wouldn't surprise me if Gort fires the not so fatal shot. Poof, no more Klaatu. He pissed Al Gort off when he was having so much fun hunting down polluters.

This movie might be a big draw, be very entertaining, etc.. but I think all those that took part in the liberal trendy Hollywood enviro-slant should have to sign the "Compost Pact." Very simply, in homage and as proof that they really believe in this message, their bodies not be embalmed and buried but, instead, are to be shredded and composted as fertilizer.

  1. This is the consistent message from Hollyweird - we all need to kill ourselves and die.

  6. The most famous examples of McCarthyism include the Hollywood blacklist and the investigations and hearings conducted by Joseph McCarthy. It was a widespread social and cultural phenomenon that affected all levels of society and was the source of a great deal of debate and conflict in the United States.

  7. McCarthyism

The Alien Registration Act passed by Congress on 29th June, 1940, made it illegal for anyone in the United States to advocate, abet, or teach the desirability of overthrowing the government. The law also required all alien residents in the United States over 14 years of age to file a comprehensive statement of their personal and occupational status and a record of their political beliefs. Within four months a total of 4,741,971 aliens had been registered.

The main objective of the Alien Registration Act was to undermine the American Communist Party and other left-wing political groups in the United States. It was decided that the House of Un-American Activities Committee (HUAC), that had been set up by Congress under Martin Dies in 1938 to investigate people suspected of unpatriotic behaviour, would be the best vehicle to discover if people were trying to overthrow the government.

In 1947 the House of Un-American Activities Committee (HUAC), chaired by J. Parnell Thomas, began an investigation into the Hollywood Motion Picture Industry. The HUAC interviewed 41 people who were working in Hollywood. These people attended voluntarily and became known as "friendly witnesses". During their interviews they named nineteen people who they accused of holding left-wing views.
