Obama, Napolitano and the silent amnesty
Recently, there were about 30 illegals busted at some plant. The governemnt gave them all a free pass to stay and legally work. Huh? Also, they gave them the option of removal if that's what they wanted. It's not unusual for some illegals to push for a hearing rather than "Expedited removal". Nor is it unusual that the governemnt would want to keep some around as witnesses to help prosecute the employer. But a blanket pass, nope.
Here's the bullshit rhetoric that bothers me. "Kicking in doors in the middle of the night, separating families and mothers from their children." All of this is bullshit on several levels. First, it panders to people's emotions rather than reality. "Oh, how cruel. How mean-spirited. Boo-hoo." Reality: In this country the police or, more often, sheriff's department can show up at your door, anytime day or night, and arrest you for so little as failing to pay your traffic tickets.
Kicking in doors? ICE operates under different guide lines from most police agencies. The teams that go out and target specific illegals, illegals who have already been ordered out of the country and are typically the worst of the worst, (convicted murderers, pedophiles, etc..) don't kick in doors as a matter of policy. From what I've seen, typically they knock on the door looking for Joe Blow and ask to come in. Once in, they may inquire about immigration status of others at the residence and may arrest illegals they run into even though they're not on their hit list. Knowing this, the ACLU and other groups inform illegals not to answer their doors.
And consider this: Since when does having kids give anyone a free pass? Cops can't take you to jail when you break the law because you have kids? Huh? News to me. Typically, when ICE makes a "raid" at the workplace and take a bunch of illegals into custody, they inquire about who has kids, dependants, whatever at home. And if they find "mom" has kids depending on her they'll kick her loose with an orer to appear at a hearing or, maybe go the ankle monitor bit. But the "What about the children" is always the last bastion argument of a emotion pandering snot-nosed liberal. It never fails.
Here's part of the story I mentioned.
Immigration agents served a criminal search warrant today on a Bellingham plant where 28 workers were arrested in February.
The search warrant was served on Yamato Engine Specialists, where a raid on Feb. 24 prompted Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano to order a review of the action. Many workers arrested in that raid were released last week from a detention center in Tacoma, and some were given the option of obtaining work permits.
Guillen said two were deported, but many were released last week and given permission to work. "They're being offered work permits to work anywhere," she said.
Makalai told the Herald the company is enrolled in the e-Verify, an online system employers can use to check the Social Security numbers of job applicants.
The raid on Yamato was the first mass arrest of immigrants since President Barack Obama took office. It appeared to contradict his policy that federal agents focus more on employers who hire undocumented workers than on the workers themselves.
The response from Napolitano to the earlier raid and release of the workers last week was heavily criticized by advocates of stricter immigration laws and enforcement, including the Federation for American Immigration Reform, based in Washington, D.C."
