Quinnies Restaurant. Decatur, Ga. Eatery. Home cooking. Food
This is a shameless plug for a local eatery that I use on a regular basis. They're in the Vista Grove shopping center about 4 blocks from LaVista and Clairmont. I know Google has a tendency to add these kind of headings to their Search engine so I'm hoping this appears if anyone's looking for chow. Nothing fancy about this little place. No big, long food bar. Not tons of offerings. Just good, home cooking, which is getting hard to find. The $5 special is a deal. A meat, 2 veggies and a roll or cornbread. Usually, I get 3 at a time.
I've never been thrilled or disappointed with their food, it's simply rock solid consistent. Good chow. Unlike Piccadilly which was an ongoing disappointment and pricier. Ms. Laura usually serves while Ms. Annie is in the back tending the next round. I don't mean to "diss" Al or the other woman that I sometimes see but Laura and Annie are usually there, I see them the most often. In short, "No," it's not going to be the very best mac and cheese you ever had or, maybe, the best chicken you ever had but it's always going to be good. Always.
You like greens, limas, greens beans, squash, yams, mac and cheese, blackeyed peas, etc? You like chicken, meat loaf, country fried steak, pork chops, fish, etc..? The entrees and sides usually change a little, day to day, but not much. And that's just fine with me. Not all entrees fall into the $5 special. Think they charge more for the fish, pork chops, whatever and they don't serve those every day. But I know that every time I go there I can find 3 plates of food with my name on them.
Oh, I usually go afternoons and never find them crowded. Which is, also, a big plus in my book. So, by posting this and hoping to send them more business I'm kind of at odds with myself but I hope they're always there.

Found out that it's the $5 Lunch special. They were also serving catfish but that cost a little more. Yeah, it's pretty much "soul food" but I consider it more southern cooking. No ham bone in the black eyes peas, ox tail soup, chitterlings (I've never tried them) or that sort of soul food. No grease, very little fried food. But, oh man. To a guy living solo that hasn't been cooking in a while, heaven. My parrot even likes the black eyes peas but passes on the yams.
