A former Los Angeles carwash employee who alleges that he was fired for publicly speaking out about being illegally underpaid joined others Wednesday in calling for a boycott of local carwashes.

"This is a fight," Jose Torres said in Spanish during a news conference outside his former workplace, Vermont Hand Wash. "It was very risky speaking publicly, but here I am."

Torres and local labor leaders said he was fired about two weeks ago for speaking out about poor working conditions at the carwash. He said he worked there for more than three years and was paid between $35 and $40 for a 10-hour workday.

A Times investigation published in March showed that hand carwashes across the Southland often violate basic labor and immigration laws.

At a fifth of Southern California carwashes, employees in the last five years have formally accused owners of illegally underpaying them. Many workers said they received only tips for some or all of their shifts and some said they earned as little as $1.63 an hour.

CASA of Maryland, the state's largest immigrant advocacy group, held a news conference yesterday at which it released a report estimating the policy could cost the county $3.2 million a year. Opponents called for an end to the program, which is the result of an agreement signed Feb. 6 between the Frederick County Sheriff's Department and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Sure I'd believe their figures. Ahh, I wonder if they figured in the costs of illegals?

Critics have railed against Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio for concentrating his "crime-suppression efforts" in neighborhoods with a high percentage of Hispanic and Latino residents.

So this week, he took the operation to Fountain Hills, where Arpaio lives and few Hispanics do.

But the results were the same.

In a two-day traffic-violation patrol, 16 of the 20 people arrested - or 80 percent of them - were suspected of being in the country illegally.

According to the 2000 census, fewer than 5 percent of the 20,000 residents were Hispanic.

Arpaio was surprised that 80 percent of those arrested were suspected illegal immigrants.

Still, the sheriff said everyone arrested was breaking the law.

"I'm a little surprised, quite frankly, when you take (Wednesday's) figures, seven out of 10, and (Tuesday's) figures, nine out of 10, that's double what we arrested in two days in Guadalupe," Arpaio said. "I didn't realize we would get that many illegals in Fountain Hills."

Sheriff's officials attributed the discrepancy to early morning construction traffic in the area.

Deputies also arrested three U.S. citizens for driving with suspended licenses, including one who had a warrant for her arrest.

Those apprehensions make the operation a success, said sheriff's Sgt. Brett Palmer, who commanded Wednesday's effort.

Traffic stops are one of the most efficient means of clearing warrants and ferreting out drivers who have suspended licenses, he said, and if the efforts catch people in the country illegally, it doesn't mean deputies are targeting members of a certain race.

The acting chief of Mexico's federal police was shot dead early Thursday outside his home in the capital.

The Public Safety Department said Edgar Millan Gomez was shot 10 times and died hours later in a hospital. Two of his bodyguards were wounded.

Millan was the second top federal police official killed in less than a week in Mexico City. A Mexican federal police intelligence analyst was killed on May 2 in an apparent armed robbery attempt outside his home.

In January, police in Mexico City arrested three men armed with assault rifles and grenade launchers who were allegedly planning to assassinate Jose Luis Santiago Vasconcelos, a top prosecutor who oversees the extradition of drug traffickers.

I've called the Gov's office before on this and I can once more. Plus, besides seeing this state take a stand, I enjoy seeing the pro-illegals wet their pants everytime a new law targeting them is passed.

"They're afraid of us Mexicans taking over politically, I think," he said in a television interview. What the hell? Are you a Mexican or an American? If you're a Mexican, Canadian, Irishman, etc.. then you sure as hell shouldn't be holding office in this country. Where is your allegiance?

Federal immigration agents raided the construction site of a new federal courthouse in Richmond on Monday, arresting 33 workers on charges of violating federal immigration laws and being in the United States illegally, officials said yesterday.

Several sources confirm a 10-year-old girl from St. Anthony gave birth to a little girl on Saturday at Madison Memorial Hospital in Rexburg.

The girl was allegedly raped by 37-year-old Guadalupe Gutierrez-Juarez. Gutierrez-Juaraz is an illegal immigrant who is in the Fremont County Jail on rape charges.

Gutierrez-Juarez was arrested April 29th after medical personnel alerted police that a pregnant child had come in for treatment. That child is now one of the youngest mothers in Idaho.

It's unclear who will take custody of the newborn, what will happen to the ten year old, and if Gutierrez-Juarez will face charges. Unclear if he will face charges? Ahhh, as soon as those tests come back they should put him in a prison jumpsuit with a bullseye on it.

The St. Anthony police department is still conducting an investigation against Gutierrez-Juaraz so officers did not want to comment on the case. They say more details may be released later.

Gutierrez-Juarez is being held on 250 thousand dollars bond. Even if he did post the required amount, he would not be released because he is an illegal immigrant. We assume ICE has placed a detainer on him? That's a very good thing.

Authorities say they wounded a northern New York man and are seeking another man after a thwarted smuggling attempt at the Canadian border.

Timothy Fleury was wounded in an exchange of gunfire late Monday night with state troopers and U.S. Border Patrol agents.

The 25-year-old Fleury and his companion, who were driving all-terrain vehicles, led authorities on a 30-minute chase over roads and fields near the border in Franklin County. After Fleury was shot, his companion fled on foot. He was still being sought early Wednesday.

Federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents arrested 22 illegal immigrants who were working at restaurants in Lahaina and Wailea during sweeps at locations of two restaurant chains Friday.

Eight workers were arrested at Cheeseburger Island Style and Cheeseburger in Paradise restaurants in Wailea and Lahaina, while 14 employees of Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. in Lahaina were arrested, according to the agency.

They act like he's going wild in the streets targeting Hispanics and that's been shown to be a total lie. But they keep repeating the lie. I've made this observation before: If your position is so sound and right then you wouldn't need to lie and deceive. So, when I see people lying like hell about an issue that tells me they have no sound base and are inventing arguments. In short: Dirtbags.

I've never felt any need to lie and deceive over this issue but that's all I ever hear from the pro-illegal side.

Arpaio, who has been active in arresting illegal immigrants, came under fire from Wilcox and State Rep. Steve Gallardo, D-Phoenix, who said the sheriff's recent ventures in Phoenix and Guadalupe amount to racial profiling. Within an hour after their comments at a news conference, Arpaio announced he had begun a crime suppression patrol in Fountain Hills. "Racial profiling." Gee, how many times have I heard that one? Ahh, like EVERYTIME there's ANY mention of enforcement?

Meanwhile, Gallardo asked of Arpaio's patrols, ``At what point does this come to where we have violence in the streets of Phoenix because of his tactics?" If the pro-illegals want to resort to violence as a protest to the enforcement of our immigration laws I'd consider that an extremely stupid thing to do. As I've stated many times: LEFTISTS never met a white flag they didn't like and they're answer to every problem is surrender.

Gallardo said the sheriff is using immigration as a political stunt and ``is spending his precious resources on sweeps that for the most part are unconstitutional, they violate the civil rights of many." Really? Well, then file suit. PROVE IT.

Gallardo said he has a message for Arpaio: ``Stop causing havoc within the streets of Phoenix. Stop causing havoic within Maricopa County. Do your job. We support the mayor. The mayor's 100 percent accurate."

Gordon recently asked the federal government to investigate Arpaio's patrols.

Wilcox said the sheriff is carrying out illegal raids and the Hispanic community is united like never before to stop it.

``It is nothing more than racial profiling of American citizens of Mexican descent," Wilcox said.

She said Hispanics will fight the recall of Gordon ``in various ways, by fund-raising, by helping out any anti-recall group, grass-roots organizing and, more importantly, recruiting young people to take a leadership role in our grass-roots effort." Again, sad that the issue of illegal immigration has been hijacked by the pro-illegals into an issue of ethnicity. There was a recall effort for Arpaio that got nowhere. I don't know how far they'll get with the Gordon recall but I'll bet it has better legs.

Nicole Chapman, 32, was arrested on two felony drug warrants out of Scottsdale.

Santiago Martinez-Gonzalez, a 28-year-old undocumented immigrant, was arrested on a felony drug warrant out of Phoenix.

LAREDO — A U.S. Customs and Border Protection agent arrested on charges alleging that he sold a fake travel permit to a Mexican national made his first court appearance on Monday, the U.S. Attorney's Office said.

Ramiro Villareal Jr., 27, was arrested Thursday on a charge of accepting bribes for making and delivering fake travel documents, prosecutors said.

During a hearing Monday, U.S. Magistrate Judge Diana Saldana ordered that Villareal be held on $100,000 bail. It is unclear if the agent has a lawyer.

Put them under the jail as traitors to this nation.

Illegal immigrants fearful of being caught in stepped-up workplace raids are fueling a growing market in Houston for phony immigration and work documents.

The result, experts say, is a glut of false, altered and counterfeit documents that are easily obtained at Houston-area flea markets, businesses and clandestine printing shops set up in homes and apartments. The bogus documents include counterfeit Texas driver's licenses, fake Social Security and "green cards," and even worthless international driver's licenses sold here and in other states.

"You could put all of HPD full time on this thing, and I don't think we could put a dent in it," said Lt. Robert Sells, with the Texas Department of Public Safety's driver's license fraud unit.

The demand has been so strong that law enforcement officers in Texas have been bribed in recent years to sell the valuable documents, and several dozen have been caught.

The most significant recent case involved five immigrants from India and the Caribbean who were fooled by immigration agents posing as crooked law officers. Three were videotaped in a Houston government office last summer as they handed over $15,000 apiece for green cards, according to court records. Oh, those poor starving immigrants.

Houston federal prosecutors last month charged two local men and four others with securing fraudulent H-2B work visas for 80 unskilled workers recruited in India. The foreign workers, who paid between $20,000 to $80,000 each for the visas, arrived in Houston but were not required to work for the construction company that applied for their visas.

Instead, the Indian workers simply scattered across the country.

In an area north of Atlanta, the commissioners just passed a law that limits the number of cars at a private residence to 4. They do allow exceptions but one has to apply. They denied it was targeting "immigrants" but there is no doubt that's EXACTLY why it was enacted. Because illegals will overload a rental house with tenants and load up the yard with cars. They showed a couple of houses in the area and interviewed one guy with a heavy accent who said he was moving because of the law. See ya.'

(Media-Newswire.com) - MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Four illegal aliens were arrested by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement ( ICE ) special agents yesterday for trafficking more than $5 million in counterfeit items.

Kemo Krubally, 39, a native of Gambia, West Africa, who operates wholesale and retail merchandise outlets under the name of ATL FASHIONS, was arrested, along with three other men, as a result of an extensive investigation by ICE agents in Gulfport, Mississippi and Montgomery, Ala.

The counterfeit goods were seized by ICE special agents and the Montgomery County, Ala., Sheriff's Department, following the execution of five federal search warrants at locations linked to Krubally. The items seized included counterfeit Nike shoes and counterfeit Prada and Coach handbags.

Border Patrol officials said Monday that they arrested more than 60 illegal immigrants over the weekend during a traffic stop.

Authorities said they stopped the semi truck in East County at a checkpoint near the Kitchen Creek Road exit on Interstate 8 on Saturday at about 9:15 p.m. Border Patrol officials said they interviewed the driver, who admitted being an illegal immigrant.
